PHILIPPINES NATIONAL POLICE EMPLOY THE 21 PRECEPTS TO REBUILD A NATION

Davao Police in the Philippines proudly display their copies of The Way to Happiness during a training session.
The Way to Happiness ambassador Jerry de Tagle works with Philippines officials to reach every inhabitant of the Philippines with the 21 precepts of The Way to Happiness.

After hearing of “the Colombian miracle,” whereby distribution of The Way to Happiness to 20 percent of the Colombian population resulted in a 62 percent decrease in homicide, Philippine native Jerry de Tagle envisioned a plan to bring this Colombian miracle to his home country.

When crime rose by 46 percent throughout the Philippine archipelago in 2015, the Philippines National Police were left desperate for answers to restore peace and safety to its population.

Thus de Tagle joined forces with the Chief of Police of Davao and delivered his first training seminar to 45 police and staff. One month later, these police carried out their first pilot distribution, reaching 2,000 people with The Way to Happiness in Davao’s crime hot spot—the Bankerohan market. This resulted in an immediate 70 percent drop in crime in the area.

The word of the effectiveness of The Way to Happiness spread amongst Filipino military and police officials who insisted de Tagle’s team come train their soldiers and police. From Colonel Rodrigo Bonifacio’s request to train 18,000 prison guards to requests from the 1003rd Army Brigade, those trained on the 21 precepts started a national The Way to Happiness campaign. Similarly, in Davao, police distributed The Way to Happiness door to door at the homes of drug dealers and users encouraging them to surrender drugs for good.

Only three months after de Tagle delivered his first seminar, 1,065 drug users and pushers surrendered to police in Quezon City. In total, de Tagle sparked a Filipino The Way to Happiness revolution. Upward of 7,800 officials were trained on the program, 33,000 The Way to Happiness booklets were distributed throughout the country, over 6.1 million Filipinos were reached through book distribution and media.

As a result, the Philippines National Police Chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa announced a 49 percent drop in crime in 2016 as compared to the previous year.

Since that time, de Tagle has continued to expand his training seminars. Most recently he trained 3,000 people, including a general, the mayor, and other police and government officials on “Ethics for Nation Building.”

Jerry de Tagle is making sure the momentum created by the 21 precepts continues to bring sanity to every aspect of the Filipino nation.

TAKING ACTION
A New Year of Potential Happiness

To prepare for the world-famous Hollywood Christmas Parade, volunteers sweep up.

A brand-new year is upon us. There are many actions that can be taken all year long to apply the precepts of The Way to Happiness and make a real difference in one’s life and in the community. Last year the Los Angeles chapter of The Way to Happiness were determined to make their hometown sparkle for viewers of the Annual Hollywood Christmas Parade.

It is the largest Christmas celebration in the US, attracting more than one million in attendance and viewed by millions more on television. So by applying the precept “Safeguard and Improve Your Environment,” volunteers organized a street cleanup the day before the parade. This prompted the city to donate dozens of brooms, brushes, shovels and other cleaning supplies.

A representative of Los Angeles City Council met the crew to give the final send-off. A team of 30 hit the street in The Way to Happiness T-shirts and filled dozens of bags with dirt and debris along the parade route. During the parade the next evening, millions internationally got to see Hollywood shine.
